What we do
Maths is probably one of the words that many of us quiver at when we hear it; however Numbers Nursery is about making maths fun and exciting through play.
“The best kept classroom and the richest cupboard are roofed only by the sky.” Margaret McMillan (c1925)
The Numbers Nursery workshops are focussed on nurturing mathematical experiences in outdoor environments linked to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our workshops help young children to be better prepared for the mathematical curriculum in school, and through outdoor play; children have a better understanding of the natural world, and develop healthy and active lifestyles.
Numbers Nursery is about inspiring and harnessing children’s ‘sense of wonder’ through numbers, shapes, sequencing, sorting, collecting, estimating, calculating, and demystifying early mathematical language.
What an experience to lay on the ground and look up at the trees, wondering how close you are to the clouds! To look at the shape of the clouds and see how fast they move across the sky; or to stand on a beach and count the waves as they roll and crash onto the sand. And then to look at the amazing shapes that surround us in the woods and on the beach, and to learn about number, shape, size and volume through talking, observing and questioning.
